Fellow Store Owners,
It has been exactly one month since my last note to our
membership and although it may seem to some that little or
nothing is happening, rest assured that is not the case.
The research by Gordon and Reese continues. Larry, our
President requested input from our members pertaining to
their respective experiences with MBE/UPS. These emails,
Faxes, etc were forwarded to Miles Scully for his research.
As of this date he has not completed his research in order
to provide the Brown Board with his opinion indicating
whether or not there is a basis for legal action, and if so,
the form that it should take.
We, as lay persons, may instinctively feel that there are
indeed many bases for legal action, however, what we feel
and what is legally significant may very well differ. We
must wait for that opinion and we are assured that G&R is
diligently working on formulating said opinion.
We are in the process of reviewing an Agreement Letter with
the National Franchisee Association. Approval of the
agreement by the Board of Directors and affiliation with
this organization will offer to our members the following
Services and Benefits:
- Legal Services: Issues must be specific
to issues that concern the Association and that impact the
UPS Store’s community. Individual issues are not included
however counseling of individual members on matters with
MBE/UPS will be included. A Franchise Relations Committee
will be formed, consisting of NFA staff and BB members to
deal with and resolve issues with Corporate.
- Group Health Insurance, including
Dental, Drug Prescriptions and Vision.
- Supplemental Life Insurance
- Business Insurance including Property,
General Liability, Worker’s Comp. etc.
- Payroll processing and Bill Paying
- Financial Reporting
- Health Discount Cards
- Computer / Software Purchase Plan
- Travel Services
- Vendor contract negotiations and mass
purchasing
Although our negotiations have not been
concluded we anticipate that our affiliation with NFA will
become effective in early November. We have mentioned the
advantages of strength in numbers. NFA presently represents
28,000 franchisees. That which is worthwhile invariably
requires time and effort to achieve. This then accounts for
the time and effort of your Board of Directors. More to
follow.
Yours Truly,
Mike Rodriguez
Chairman
The Brown Board Owner’s Association
